CIEH Food Safety Training

We all expect that any food we buy, whether fresh ingredients, groceries, snacks or meals, will be safe and wholesome.

Everyone involved in food production and delivery, from manufacturers and retailers to caterers, has a moral and legal duty to know the principles and practices of food safety.

CIEH food safety and nutrition qualifications are accredited by Ofqual.

CIEH Level 1 Awards in Food Safety

These qualifications have been developed to help you understand key food safety issues and introduce you to basic food hygiene principles.

  • CIEH Level 1 Award in Food Safety Awareness in Catering
  • CIEH Level 1 Award in Induction into Food Safety for Manufacturing
  • CIEH Level 1 Award in Food Safety Awareness for Retail

 

You need this qualification if:

  • you work in a food environment and have minimal or no prior food safety knowledge
  • you handle low-risk or wrapped foods
  • you are a front of house employee in a food environment, such as waiting or check out staff
  • you are a back of house employee in a food environment, such as kitchen porters or warehouse staff

 

Duration: half-day programme
Assignment: 15 MCQ exam

CIEH Level 1 Award in Induction into Safety in Food Premises

This qualification is designed to provide you with a basic awareness of key safety issues within food premises. It also covers the role everyone should play in keeping themselves and others free from harm in the workplace.

You require this qualification if:

  • you are entering the workplace for the first time, (either as part of a work experience programme or at the start of employment), within food premises.
  • you are starting a new job in a food environment.

 

Duration: half-day programme
Assessment: 15 MCQ exam

CIEH Level 2 Awards in Food Safety

These qualifications provide you with the fundamental food hygiene knowledge required for all food handlers

  • CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering
  • CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing
  • CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Retail

 

You need this qualification if:

  • You work in a catering, manufacturing or retail setting where food is prepared, cooked or handled.

CIEH Level 2 Awards in Food Safety (Refresher)

This qualification is designed to refresh your knowledge of food safety. It is recommended you take it three years after completing the Level 2 Awards in Food Safety.

CIEH Level 2 Award in Cleaning in Food Premises

This qualification introduces you to the hazards, risks and controls associated with cleaning in food premises. It also covers the ways to control the risks involved to help prevent harm being caused.

CIEH Level 2 Award in Healthier Food & Special Diets

This qualification provides you with essential tools to fully grasp the fundamental principles of nutrition.

You need this qualification if:

  • you work in catering environments and are involved in the selection of menus, recipes and ingredients.
  • you work in the health care or education sectors.

CIEH Level 3 Awards in Food Safety

This training has been designed to provide you with a thorough understanding of food safety procedures with an emphasis on the importance of monitoring staff and controls.

  • CIEH Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering
  • CIEH Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision for Manufacturing

You need this qualification if:

  • you are a manager or a supervisor in a small, medium or large catering, manufacturing or retail business.
  • your role involves developing or monitoring HACCP based food safety management procedures and systems.

CIEH Level 3 Awards in HACCP

These practical qualifications are designed to ensure you develop the required knowledge and practical skills to implement a HACCP plan in your workplace.

  • CIEH Level 3 Award in HACCP for Food Manufacturing
  • CIEH Level 3 Award in HACCP in Catering

 

You need this qualification if:

  • you are a manager or supervisor of a food manufacturing business and are responsible for the development of a HACCP food safety management system.
  • you are a business owner, a manager or a supervisor of a small, medium-sized or large catering operation.

CIEH Level 4 Awards in Food Safety

These sector specific qualifications have been developed to give you a practical understanding of food safety management procedures.

  • CIEH Level 4 Award in Managing Food Safety in Catering
  • CIEH Level 4 Award in Food Safety Management for Manufacturing

 

You need this qualification if:

  • you are a production manager
  • you are a trainer in food safety
  • you own or manages a food business
  • you are a supervisor with intermediate food hygiene knowledge
  • you work as a hygiene auditor
  • you are a shift manager or supervisor in a food business

CIEH Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

This qualification is designed to make you aware of the key health and safety issues and the part you should play in keeping yourself and others free from harm in the workplace.

You need this qualification if:

  • you are entering the workplace for the first time (either as part of a work experience programme or at the start of employment)
  • you are starting a new job, as part of the induction programme.

CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

This qualification has been developed to ensure you are aware of your own safety and the safety of customers, contractors and the public.

It is recommended that you take the half-day Level 2 Award in Health and Safety (Refresher) every three years

CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety (Refresher)

This qualification is designed to refresh your knowledge of health and safety. It is recommended you take it three years after completing the Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace.

Duration: half-day programme

Assessment: 15 MCQ exam

CIEH Level 2 Award in Manual Handling – Principles and Practice

Deliver as a half-day course for Principles only, or a full-day for those who need to learn about practical manual handling techniques. This qualification provides you with theoretical and practical information about manual handling risks, hazards and their control.

You need this qualification if:

  • your role involves any manual handling activity such as handling materials, boxes, mail and packages, relevant for both industrial and office workers.

 

Duration: one-day programme

Assessment: 30 MCQ exam and practical assessment (assessment for practical element only)

CIEH Level 2 Award in the Principles of COSHH

Introduces you to the inherent risks in hazardous substances, the techniques to encourage safer use and the controls available.

You need this qualification if:

  • you are responsible for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) as part of your role
  • you use hazardous substances in your work environment, such as manufacturing, cleaning, healthcare, transport, utilities or offices

 

Duration: half-day programme

CIEH Certificate in Stress Awareness

Provides advice and guidance on protecting yourself from the damaging effects of stress.

You need this qualification if:

  • you role involves dealing with the public
  • you work to targets or deadlines
  • you work in a service provider environment
  • you are a trainer
  • you are a supervisor or a manager

 

Duration: half-day programme

Assessment: self-assessment under trainer supervision

CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in Health and Social Care

Provides you with a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of health and safety in the health and social care sector.

  • you work in a hospital or care home whether in the public or the private sector.

CIEH Level 2 Award in Hygiene in Health and Social Care

CIEH Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work

This qualification provides you with the skills and knowledge to become a first-aider in low-risk work environments such as shops and offices.

 

This qualification can be undertaken as:

  • initial training
  • annual first-aid skills refresher
  • three-yearly requalification

 

You need this qualification if:

  • you wish to take on the role of first aider in your workplace.

CIEH Level 3 Award in Training Skills and Practice

This qualification is the benchmark trainer skills qualification for CIEH registered trainers. 

It is designed to help you understand the basics of training skills and practice. It encourages a flexible approach to training delivery that takes account of learners’ needs and preferences.

 

You need this qualification if:

  • you want to develop your practical training skills
  • you wish to register to deliver CIEH qualifications in food safety, health and safety and environmental protection without public funding.

CIEH Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector

This qualification sets the minimum standard for all those in or entering the teaching, learning and development sector. It introduces you to the knowledge and skills required by teachers to develop and deliver programmes, provide learning support and take responsibility in managing the learning process in post-16 education.

 

You need this qualification if:

  • you are entering a teaching or training role
  • you need to achieve the minimum threshold status as a teacher within a FE College, adult and community learning centre, work-based learning or training organisation.
